How to Easily Free up Some Storage Space on Windows 10/11 using Storage Sense (Easy Method)
Storage Sense is a built-in feature in Windows 10 and Windows 11 that helps you manage your storage by automatically freeing up space. Here’s how to use it to easily free up storage space:
Step 1: Open Storage Settings
Press the Windows Key + I to open Settings.
Select System.
Click on Storage from the left-hand menu.
Step 2: Enable Storage Sense
In the Storage settings, you will see the Storage Sense toggle.
Turn on Storage Sense if it’s not already enabled.
Step 3: Configure Storage Sense
Click on Configure Storage Sense or run it now to access more settings.
You can choose how often you want Storage Sense to run:
Every day, Every week, Every month, or During low free disk space.
Below that, you can configure how it handles temporary files:
Delete temporary files that apps aren’t using.
Delete files in the Recycle Bin after a specified number of days (e.g., 30 days).
Delete files in the Downloads folder if they haven’t been opened for a specified number of days.
Step 4: Free Up Space Immediately
In the Storage settings, you can click on Free up space now under Storage Sense.
Windows will scan for temporary files, Recycle Bin items, and downloads that can be safely deleted.
Check the boxes next to the files you want to delete, and click on the Remove files button.
Step 5: Additional Storage Options
If you need to free up more space, scroll down to the More storage settings section:
Click on Other to view specific storage usage by apps, temporary files, and system files.
You can click on individual categories (like Apps & features, Documents, or Pictures) to see what’s taking up space and choose what to delete or move.
Step 6: Clear System Files (Optional)
You can also use Disk Cleanup for additional space:
Press the Windows Key and search for Disk Cleanup.
Select the drive you want to clean up (usually C:).
Click on Clean up system files to include system files in the cleanup process.
Check the boxes for the file types you want to delete, then click OK and Delete Files to confirm.
