In this video guide I'll walk you through on how to find Scratch, who I like to call Scratches, the dog and recruit him to join your camp in Baldur's Gate 3 as an NPC companion.

Also known as how to find and recruit the dog in BG3.

Whether you call them dags or dogs everyone loves natures 4 legged descendants from wolves.

That’s why you want to make sure you don’t miss out on one of Baldur’s Gate 3 two non-playable companion characters you can pick up in Act 1 of the game. The first is Withers a lich that just randomly showed up in my camp one night, but you’re supposed to free from a tomb, that allows you to respec and hire hirelings, but we will talk about him more in a future video.

What you’re here to find out about is Scratches. He can be located just east of the blighted village.

Unfortunately for him his partner has met a rather cruel end. But whatever you do, do not tell scratches that his friend is dead. Even if you do not have animal handling or speak to animals you’ll be able to get Scratches to join you. During the dialogue options just choose the non-aggressive options to get him to join you, hold out your hand so he can smell you and find you camp later. He’ll understand.

That next time when you make camp go to sleep as usual. When you wake up you’ll get greeted by a friendly bark. For now Scratches will just hang around camp and let you pet him, and if you have a ball you can even play fetch with him and earn an achievement. Legend has it that later in the game he may even just become a companion who can follow you around. But for now that’s just a legend….
