This tutorial will show you how to get back the image thumbnails if just one folder is affected, or all of them are. These settings are subtle and easy to change.
The first solution is to open up a folder that you're having the issue with then click on the view tab, open options and then head to view. Here you will see all the files and folder settings. Disable the option that reads: always show icons, never thumbnails. Apply to save your settings.
The alternative fix for the image thumbnail preview error is to open the This PC Properties and open to advanced then performance settings. You can enable the ability to show thumbnails instead of icons from here.
