This game should work out of the box with the latest build of Proton Experimental.

Step 1. Enable Proton Experimental.

Install Steam, sign into your account and navigate to Steam / Settings / Steam Play and tick both Enable Steam Play for supported titles and Enable Steam Play for all other titles.

This will select Proton Experimental as the default Proton build, which is what we want, restart Steam at this point.

Step 2. Install The Game.

Install the game as normal and launch, which will bring up the Ubisoft Connect launcher, so type in your credentials to proceed.

Step 3. Disable Ubisoft in-game Overlay.

From here, navigate to the General section and untick Enable in-game overlay for supported game, and close Ubisoft Connect.

Step 4. Launch The Game.

Finally, launch the game, type your password in, and Far Cry 3 will load.
