Is Regata OS The Best Linux Distribution For Gaming?
154In this video I cover Regata OS and it's suitability as a Linux distribution for gaming.
Specifically from the developer:
"Regata OS is based on openSUSE Leap, but many packages are from openSUSE Tumbleweed, especially those that deal with hardware, such as the Linux Kernel, as well as the Mesa and X.Org Server graphics stack are in their most recent stable versions, among other components."
Regata OS has two unique applications installed by default:
Regata OS - a professionally designed application stores that has a wide variety of open source and proprietary software including Lightworks, Kdenlive, DaVinci Resolve , Spotify, GIMP, VLC and OBS Studio.
However since Regata OS does not have a separate application for installing drivers, then you have to install the latest nVidia GPU drivers through this store.
Although Lutris and Steam are available to install as well, the former is not strictly required as Regata includes Regata OS Game Access that acts as a front end for game platforms such as Battlenet, Origin, Epic Games, and Uplay.
The disadvantage is that unlike Lutris, you cannot change the version of Wine used, although Feral Gamemode is installed and enabled by default for any games launched through Game Access.
You still need to manually set up Steam Proton however.
In summary, a well put together distribution that looks professional and aims to make it easier to install non Steam Store games on Linux, but since it is not based on a more popular mainstream distribution such as Arch or Ubuntu, support could be a problem.
