How to live stream on slow internet (as I did for nine months!)
8I wanted to leave behind some sort of compiled hints and tips from my nine months of streaming on ADSL, before I switched to fibre broadband.
Despite some people thinking of ADSL as ancient history, a lot of the UK (and I'm sure the world) still has it, whether as a result of choice, cost, or simply the fact that they live in an area that isn't likely to get fibre for a long, long time.
Imposter syndrome took hold, and I wondered if a video on it was really needed after all. But then I saw a forum post from a complete streaming newbie, stuck with ADSL, asking if they'd be able to start streaming, and pretty much all the comments said no.
But, that's not true at all?! Sure, it'll take compromises, and a bit of tolerance from your viewers sometimes, but it's absolutely do-able. How do you know that the person you told 'no' outright, as politely and sincerely as you meant it, wasn't going to do some sort of chill art stream, or a just chatting stream, which would totally have been possible on ADSL, and in HD at that?
