About this video: In this video, we’re going to quickly show you how to get a crafter and start using to automate your crafting. This is far from the most efficient crafter setup out there, but it will get you started and things can be optimized from there. The crafter is a super powerful block, so there are tons of different options and it is 100% worth checking out.
To make the crafter itself, the raw materials needed are 3 redstone dust, 4 iron bars, 4 wooden planks, and 7 cobblestone. Start off by making a crafting table. Then, make a dropper using your cobblestone and one redstone dust. Finally, combine the crafting table, dropper, iron bars, and redstone dust to get a crafter.
This is the block at the center of automatic crafting in Minecraft 1.21. From there, we have two different potential setups that we can use. The first is a one tick setup. This can be good for quickly crafting, but it can be too fast depending on what you are making.
Start off by placing down the crafter. Then place a hopper on top of it with a chest on top of the hopper. Open the crafter and block off the slots you don’t want to use and add the items you want to craft to the remaining slots. Then, place the items in the chest. Finally, place a hopper with a chest in front of the crafter one block under it so it lines up with the groun and place a chest below the hopper.
Now, get two obsersers and place them looking at each other one block below the hopper where they are sending a one tick redstone signal to the crafter. This will activate the crafter and start it working.
There is also a redstone clock setup. This can be good for automating crafting larger items. This involves creating a redstone loop with repeaters in it. This will slow down the redstone clock. We recommend at least 3 repearts.
Hook the clock up to a lever or button and the back of the crafter with the same hopper and chests setups mentioned earlier. Quickly flip the lever or press the button to send a redstone signal. Now, the crafter will start crafting and have more time to refill than with the one tick setup. This is perfect for automatically crafting more complex recipes in Minecraft.
