About this video: This video is our guide on how to create a survival server in Minecraft allowing you to create a server and play survival Minecraft with your friends. On top of that, this server can be converted into a modded server or plugin based server if you want to continue the world with mods or plugins in the future.
To get started, you will need to download Minecraft server.jar file. There is a link in the description above that will take you to our complete text guide for making a Minecraft server. This will create a survival server by default.
Once you are there, click the “Download Minecraft’ button to start downloading the Minecraft server.jar. You may need to keep or save the file depending on your browser.
Next, create a “Minecraft Survival Server” folder on your desktop, and drop-and-drop the server.jar file you downloaded into it. It is worth mentioning you will need Java in order to run a Minecraft server, and you can download it from a link in the description above.
Double-click the server.jar, and some files and folders will appear in your Survival Minecraft Server directory. One of these will be an eula.txt file. Open that file and change “eula=false” to “eula=true” and save the file assuming you agree to the Minecraft EULA.
Then, double-click the server.jar again. Your Minecraft server will not start! By default Minecraft servers all start as survival servers. You can change things around and customize servers. Most vanilla survival Minecraft servers are customized using the server.properties file in the main server directory.
In order for you to join your Minecraft survival server, you can use the IP address “localhost”. When you join, you will see info appear in the server’s console. You can OP yourself by typing “op YOURUSERNAME” in the server’s console and hitting enter.
From there, you will probably want to play survival Minecraft with your friends. This requires you to port forward your Minecraft server. There is an in-depth guide on port forwarding for a Minecraft server in the description above. The quick guide though is that you will want to forward the port 25565 on the TCP and UDP protocols.
After you port forward, your friends will use your public IP address to join your server. By default, they will be in survival playing in your survival Minecraft server.
At this point, you now know how to make a survival Minecraft server. If you have any questions about how to create a survival server in Minecraft, let us know in the comments. We will try our best to help you out.
