About this video: This is a complete guide on how to make a modded Minecraft server in 1.21. From where to download Minecraft 1.21 modded server files to how to create a modded Minecraft 1.21 server and start playing modded Minecraft with your friends, this video coves it all!
To get started, I want to note that we are going to be creating a Forge server. Fabric is also a super popular mod loader, and you can find a guide on making a Fabric server in the description above.
From here, we will need to download modded Minecraft server files using the Forge installer. You can find a link in the description to download Forge 1.21. This will take you to our tutorial on getting the Forge installer, and it will show you how to install Forge 1.21 in singleplayer. This is important for a modded Minecraft server in 1.21 as everyone who joins the server will need Forge 1.21 installed locally.
On this page, click on “Download Forge” and you will be taken to the official Forge download page. On this page, select 1.21 on the left-hand side and under Download Latest, click on “Installer”. This will take you to AdFocus. Wait a few seconds and click “Skip Ad” in the top right to start downloading the Forge installer.
Now, make a new “Modded Minecraft Server 1.21” folder on your desktop.
Open the Forge Installer with Java 21. Then, click Install Client and click okay to install Forge locally. You will use this to join your server. Open the Forge Installer and again and click “Install Server”. Then, click the three dots in the red box that appears and set that to install to the “Modded Minecraft Server 1.21” folder you created. Finally, click “Okay” and all the modded Minecraft server files will download.
Open up the “Modded Minecraft Server 1.21” folder and double-click the “run.bat” file. Your server will try to start, but it will end up failing. You will have a new “eula.txt” file though. Open this and assuming you agree to the Minecraft EULA, change “eula=false” to “eula-true” and save the file.
When you double-click the run.bat file again, your Minecraft 1.21 modded server will start. You can join your server using the IP address “localhost”. Just make sure you are joining using your Forge installation to ensure you can join the server.
For your friends to join, they will need to port forward. We cover everything you need to know in regards to how to port forward for a modded Minecraft server in 1.21 in this video. In short though, you will need forward port 25565 on the TCP and UDP protocols in order for your friends to be able to join your modded Minecraft server in 1.21.
Once you have port forwarded, your friends can join your server using your public IP address found at the link above.
As far as adding mods to your 1.21 modded Minecraft server, you can add any Forge 1.21 mods to your server. Just add them to the “mods” folder within “Modded Minecraft Server 1.21” folder. You and anyone who joins the server will also need those mods installed locally in their mods folder, so make sure to let players joining your server what mods to download.
