About this video: Forge is one of the most popular mod loaders for Minecraft 1.21, and with that, you probably want to know how to make a Forge server for Minecraft 1.21 in order to play Forge mods with your friends. Well, this video will cover everything you need to know to create a Forge 1.21 server and start playing on it. We even go over where to get mods for your server and how to install Minecraft mods on a server, so let’s jump into it!

First things first, we need to download the Forge server files for Minecraft 1.21. You can find a link in the description above that will take you to our tutorial on installing Forge locally. This is great because not only will you need to install Forge locally in addition to making a Forge server, everyone who joins your server will need Forge 1.21 installed locally as well.

From here, click the “Download Forge” button to go to Forge’s official download page. On this page, select 1.21 and click “Installer” under the download latest section. That will take you to a page where you need to wait about 10 seconds then click the “Skip Ad” button in the top right and Forge 1.21 will start downloading.

Now, create a “Forge 1.21 Server” folder on your desktop. This is where all of your Minecraft Forge server files will be stored.

Open up the Forge Installer for 1.21, and click on “Install Server”. A red box will appear. Click the three dots within the red box, and then, select the Forge 1.21 Server folder you created. Click “Okay”, and the Forge 1.21 server files will downloaded and installed into this folder.

You will also need to install Forge locally. This is done by reopening the 1.21 Forge installer and clicking install client and click Okay.

Next, open up the Forge 1.21 Server folder, and double-click the run.bat file. Your server will try to start, but it will fail. You will have a new eula.txt file though. Open this and change “eula=false” to “eula=true” as long as you agree to the Minecraft EULA. Save the file and double-click the run.bat file again. Your modded Minecraft 1.21 Forge server will start!

To add mods to your server, make sure they are for Forge version 1.21, and then add them to the “mods” folder on your server. After that, you and anyone who will join the server needs to install them into the local mods folder within their .minecraft folder. This is all covered in the singleplayer Forge guide linked above.

After you add mods, you will need to restart your server. This will activate the mods, and as long as you have the mods installed in your mods folder within the .minecraft folder as well, you will be able to join the server using the IP address “localhost”.

For your friends to join your Forge 1.21 server though, you will need to port forward the port 25565 on the TCP and UDP protocols. Then, they can join via your public IP. There is an in-depth guide on how to port forward for a Minecraft server in the description above!

At this point though, you now know how to make a Forge server in 1.21. If you have any questions about how to create a Minecraft Forge server for 1.21, let us know in the comments. We will try our best to help you out.
