How to open Covers to Insert M.2 SSD on PS5 Expansion Bay! To open the cover of the PS5 Expansion Bay, you will need a #1 Phillips or cross-head screwdriver and a well-lit room with a table to work on. Before proceeding with the installation process, touch a metal-grounded object to remove any static electricity from your body to avoid damaging your M.2 SSD or PS5 console. Here are the steps to open the cover and insert an M.2 SSD:

Use the screwdriver to detach the expansion slot cover (the long rectangle of metal near the fan, on the front edge of the console).
Remove the screw and spacer inside the expansion slot.
Place the spacer in the slot that matches your SSD expansion size.
Hold your SSD so that it matches the connection port.
Insert the SSD into the slot at an angle, then gently push it down until it clicks into place.

Replace the screw and expansion slot cover.
