How to Pair & Connect 2nd Controller to your PS4 Console (Easy Method)
To pair and connect a second controller (DualShock 4) to your PlayStation 4 (PS4) console, follow these steps. You can connect the controller wirelessly via Bluetooth or with a USB cable.
Method 1: Wireless Connection (Bluetooth)
Turn On Your PS4: Ensure the console is powered on and connected to a TV or monitor.
Use the Primary Controller: Use an already connected controller to navigate the PS4 home screen.
Access Bluetooth Settings:
Go to Settings (briefcase icon) on the home screen.
Select Devices - Bluetooth Devices.
Put the Second Controller in Pairing Mode:
On the second DualShock 4 controller, press and hold the Share button (left of the touchpad) and the PS button (center) simultaneously for 3-5 seconds until the light bar flashes rapidly (white).
Pair the Controller:
In the Bluetooth Devices menu, the second controller will appear as “DUALSHOCK 4 Wireless Controller” under “Devices Found.”
Select it using the primary controller and press X to pair.
The light bar will stop flashing and glow a solid color (e.g., red for Player 2).
Assign a User:
If prompted, assign the controller to an existing user profile, create a new one (Settings - Users - Create User), or select Guest.
To link a PlayStation Network (PSN) account, sign in via Settings - Account Management - Sign In (see previous instructions for PSN sign-in).
