How to play the Game of Thrones board game (digital edition for free on Epic Games 2022-06-27)
11The Games of Thrones board game is one that my friends introduced to me - they invited me to their house to play it in person. It was a really fun game, but you had to physically travel to each other's houses to play. The board game itself also cost her close to $100 if I remember.
So when I saw that Epic Games had the Games of Thrones board game for free, I immediately thought, is it the same game? And the answer is yes! Exactly the same, but you can play it on the computer, and anytime you want, against people online.
It is actually quite a complicated board game. If you have played Risk, it is a little bit similar, where the goal is to attack neighbouring countries to take over their land, but in this game you only had to take 7 castles to win the whole game. Sounds easy, right? It's actually a lot harder than it sounds.
Other than taking castles there are many other elements of the game, such as the need to acquire power (crowns) to bid on influence tracks, with each influence track providing different benefits, such as being able to add attack strength to your battles.
Speaking of battles, the battle system is quite simple - the side with the most amount of strength wins. You can choose to play a character card at each battle with a different amount of Strength. The characters are all from the TV series so you will have a familiar feel to the board game already even if you have never played it before.
