Backing up your Steam games is critical so that you don't lose any game progress in the event you run into problems with your computer's hard drive and lose that information. In the event that you do run into problems and you have a Steam backup you want to restore, restoring your Steam backup is a hassle-free process. The amount of time it takes to restore your Steam backup depends on the size of the backup.

Now let's walk through the steps to restore a Steam game from a backup.

Step 1. Click to launch the Steam application on your computer.

Step 2. Click "Steam" in the row of menu items in the upper left corner of the screen to open a drop-down menu, and then click "Backup and Restore Games." The Backup and Restore Programs window appears.

Step 3. Select "Restore a Previous Backup" and then click "Next."

Step 4. Click "Browse" to navigate to the location where the Steam backup you want to restore is saved, and then click "Next." A Restore Backup window appears on the screen.

Step 5. Choose whether or not to create a desktop shortcut or a start menu shortcut, and then click "Next." The next window will display the end user license agreement for the game. Click "I Agree" to accept the license agreement. The process of the Steam backup being restored to your computer will begin. When your Steam game restore is complete, the window will change to say that your selected game is now available in your Steam library.

Step 6. Click "Finish" to close the Restore Backup window.
