The Nintendo World Championships 1990 is the biggest and most well known competition ever hosted by Nintendo. To this point the highest score ever achieved in the NWC 1990 though legitimate means lies somewhere between 4 million and 5 million points, but if we pushed things to the max and broke past the 7 digit score counter the contest uses?

Will scoring over 9,999,999 and exceeding the 10 million point threshold result in some sort of glitch? Will the game actually handle it properly? That's what we're going to be investigating today! Of course, as the highest scores ever reached in the game are only about half of what we will need to test things, we'll need to bring in a little bit of external "help" to assist us in getting the job done.

The Game Action Replay is a tool that can be used with any physical NES cartridge to allow the use of save states and slow motion functionality in the game it is used with. Surprisingly, it always works perfectly with the Nintendo World Championships 1990, and those two features are just what we need to help us reach our goal! So get ready as we set out to break one of the most famous games in existence!

If you would like to learn more about the NWC1990, including how the contest was conducted, how the cartridge worked, and even secret tricks that winning contestants such as Thor Aackerlund and Rich Ambler used to score big, check about a vidoe I made about the game here:
