We all have important, sensitive information on our computers these days. Eventually we want this information to be destroyed forever. However, does simply emptying the trash really remove this data from the computer. Unfortunately, the answer is no. To truly delete the information you need to overwrite the 1's and 0's on your hard drive. In Mac OSX you can do this one of two ways:

1) Secure Empty the Trash
or
2) Erase Free Space (In Disk Utility)

Overwriting your information will take longer and use more system resources but is saving a few minutes really worth risking your sensitive data?
