How to Share Location on Facebook Messenger

Facebook Messenger is a great way to not just talk to family and friends, but also something you can use to let them know where you're at. If you give the Facebook Messenger app on your iPhone, iPad or Android device access to your location, you can take advantage of the Live Location feature that lets you share your specific location on a map with other people in a specific Facebook Messenger conversation. Your location will be shared for 60 minutes, and you can stop sharing it easily at any time.
Now let's walk through the steps to share your location on Facebook Messenger in the Facebook Messenger app on your iPhone, iPad or Android device.
Step 1. Tap to launch the Facebook Messenger app on your iPhone, iPad, or Android device. You'll land on your Facebook Messenger home screen.
Step 2. Navigate to the conversation with the person or people you want to share your location with through Facebook Messenger.
Step 3. Tap the icon at the bottom of the screen that features four dots that form a square. A menu flies up from the bottom of the screen.
Step 4. Tap "Location" in the top row of the menu. The location icon is a blue circle that features a white arrow in the middle of it. A screen appears asking if you want to move forward with sharing your location through Facebook Messenger. Tap "OK" on this screen. A dialog box appears asking if you want to allow Messenger to access your location if Messenger doesn't currently have this access. Tap "Always Allow" to allow Facebook Messenger to always access your location, even when the app is running in the background. If you choose to only let Facebook Messenger access your location while you're using the app, you won't be able to share your location. After making your selection, the dialog box will close and you'll see a map with a blue dot on your current location.
Step 5. Tap "Share Live Location" at the bottom of the screen. Your location will start being shared with anyone else in this conversation for the next 60 minutes. Additionally, the button will change to say "Stop Sharing," and will display how much longer your location will be shared for.
Step 6. Tap the "X" in the upper right corner of the Location window to close the map and return to the conversation thread. You'll see a map in the conversation thread that anyone can click to see an enlarged map with your location on it.
You can stop sharing your location at any time by either tapping "Stop Sharing" in the small image of the map in the conversation thread, or by tapping "Stop Sharing" along the bottom of the expanded map.
