By default Google enables a safe browsing feature in Chrome that warns you before visiting potentially dangerous websites, downloading files that appear to be unsafe, or installing extensions that could be dangerous. While this is good for the majority of users, it may prevent more sophisticated users from doing things they need to do, such as downloading some files. And while you can turn the safe browsing feature off to download whatever you want, go to any website, and install any extension, it's not recommended for most users.
Now let's walk through the steps to stop Google Chrome from blocking your downloads.
Step 1. Launch the Google Chrome web browser on your computer, and then click the "Menu" icon in the top-right corner of the screen that features a vertical ellipses. A menu is displayed.
Step 2. Click "Settings" in this menu. The Settings screen is shown.
Step 3. Click "Privacy and Security" in the menu on the left side of the screen. Security and Privacy options are displayed on the right side of the screen.
Step 4. Scroll down to the Privacy and Security section, and then click "Security" in that section. A screen displaying security options is shown.
Step 5. Navigate down to the Safe Browsing section where you'll likely see that Standard Protection is selected, as that's the default option. Click to select the radio option next to "No Protection." A window pops up on the screen asking if you want to turn off safe browsing.
Step 6. As a warning, moving forward with turning off safe browsing will put you at great risk of being targeted by hackers. Click "Turn Off" if you want to move forward. Going forward Google will no longer block you from downloading any files, even if they aren't safe.
