How to Turn On the Subtitles or Live Captions on Android Phone (Settings Tutorial)
Live Captions are a nifty feature available on Android devices that provide real-time captions for any audio playing on your phone. Whether you’re in a noisy environment or simply prefer having captions, Live Captions can be quite handy. Here’s how to enable them:
Using Volume Controls:
Raise or lower the volume on your Android 12 device.
Tap the little text button located under the volume slider.
A notification will appear at the bottom of the screen, indicating that Live Captions are on.
Quick Settings:
Swipe down with two fingers from the top of your screen to open Quick Settings.
Look for the “Live Caption” tile and tap it to enable or disable Live Captions
.
Customizing Language and Translation:
When audio is detected and Live Captions are enabled, a bubble will appear with the captions for the playing content.
Tap the bubble to slightly expand it.
You can:
Change the language by tapping the current language in the expanded bubble. Currently, Live Captions support English, French, German, Italian, and Japanese (beta).
Turn on “Translate captions” to switch between two languages and translate source audio into the desired language. This option allows you to understand content in different languages
