To update your Xbox Series X controller, you have a few options. Let’s explore them:

Wireless Update:
Most Xbox Wireless Controllers (except the original version) can be updated wirelessly without connecting a USB cable.
If your controller has a small, circular 3.5-mm port on the bottom, you can update it wirelessly.
Here’s how:

Plug in a stereo headset adapter if you have one.
Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
Navigate to Profile & system- Settings - Devices & connections - Controllers & headsets.

Select the controller you want to update.
On the Xbox Wireless Controller screen, choose “…” to check the firmware version.

If it says “Update,” select “Firmware version” and follow the provided steps.
Keep in mind that the auto-detect feature might not work immediately if you plugged in the stereo headset adapter while downloading a system update or when the console was turned off. If that happens, unplug and re-plug the adapter.

You only need to update your controller once to use the stereo headset adapter. If you plan to use the adapter with other Xbox controllers, repeat this process for each controller.
USB Update:

If you prefer a wired update, follow these steps:
Plug the stereo headset adapter into the bottom of your controller.
Connect the included USB cable to your Xbox’s USB port (locations vary based on the console model).

Plug the other end of the USB cable into the top of the controller.
The instructions for installing the update should appear automatically.
Do not disconnect the USB cable while the update is in progress.
The process may take up to 3 minutes.

Using the Xbox Accessories App on PC:
Download the Xbox Accessories app from the Microsoft Store.
Connect your controller to your PC using a USB-C cable.
Open the app and go to the configure option.

Press the three dots at the bottom and select “firmware update.”
Follow the prompts and wait for the update to complete.
