HQ Task Force Helmand Moves to Camp Bastion 19.08.13
It has been announced today that HQ Task Force Helmand has moved from Lashkar Gah to Camp Bastion.
The move marks a significant step forward in the process of drawdown for British Forces in Afghanistan
Taskforce Helmand directs and manages all British operations in Afghanistan and has been based at the Helmand's provincial capital Lashkar Gah since 2006.
The HQ move to Bastion, which took place on August 9th, is part of the process of British drawdown which will see combat operations conclude by the end of 2014.
And the military says it has only been possible because the Afghans are now much more capable of looking after their own affairs.
It was a complex operation to relocate - 1400 items of IT, 10 kilometres of cables and 260 staff had to be moved. The HQ is now up and running in Bastion.
