HROT first playthrough: Episode 2
(Note: This has been upscaled to 1440p in an effort to prevent YouTube from completely butchering the quality into an incomprehensible mess.)
Episode 2 brings us out of the urban environments, into more cavernous terrain. You'd think the maps being cube-based would make this look awkward, but the engine's support of features like arches combined with the textures don't feel awkward for the most part.
A couple of new enemies are introduced in this episode, including my personal pet peeve, sentient rocks that are apparently capable of turning on a dime and one-shotting the player. I'm used to falling rocks in a video game, but _homing_ rocks??
The second-to-last level seems to hint at the presence of some optional items, which apparently carry over into the final level. I wasn't able to find all of them, so that's one thing that's definitely going to stick in my mind as a point of curiosity to possibly return to.
This episode of course also has a new boss monster, which feels rather Rise-of-the-Triad-esque. While it's arguably just as outlandish as the first episode's, I somehow feel like the first episode's boss was a bit more uniquely interesting.
I don't think I found any weapons in E2 that I hadn't also found in E1, which feels a bit disappointing. We'll have to see if anything new shows up in that regard in the final episode.
