HROT first playthrough: Additional game modes
(Note: This has been upscaled to 1440p in an effort to prevent YouTube from completely butchering the quality into an incomprehensible mess.)
In addition to the 3-episode campaign, HROT includes an endless (i.e. horde) mode, and within the campaign, it includes an intruder mode which randomizes enemies/items. I figured we might as well check those out to round out my second weekend of HROT gameplay.
Endless mode ramps up to eventually even include boss monsters, and things can get pretty out of hand by the time you reach waves in the double digits. It supports the same difficulty levels as the campaign (which only scale damage), so I replayed a couple of the arenas on the lowest difficulty to see how many waves I could get through.
Intruder mode seems to shuffle enemies only using the types originally present in the level, and randomizes which weapons/resources you'll pick up but keeps each type in the same location. It's still possible to come up with somewhat unreasonable resource balance; I even managed to softlock once in E1M1 because I had no ammo left for shooting the breaker box a few rooms in.
The developer also recently added something called "bombermod", which is hilarious, but I wasn't quite sure how to "win"...
