Severed Steel first playthrough part 2: Firefight mode
2With the campaign completed in one night, it's time to start looking at the number of extra game modes included in Severed Steel.
Firefight mode turns every campaign level into a "kill-them-all" engagement. Each level has a couple of challenges, such as a certain number of headshots or kills while wall-running / diving / upside-down.
The game mode uses an exp/level system to lock game mutators and subsequent levels, and it can take quite a while to level up completely. I played for about 4 and a half hours and still haven't unlocked the final dozen or so levels. You'll level up fairly quickly when starting out, but later on you'll probably end up needing to replay things quite a bit. Given the presence of the same difficulty options as the campaign, and the addition of score and time leaderboards, there's plenty of potential incentive to replay levels, as long as you're still itching for action. It's worth noting, however, that having _any_ mutators enabled will disable leaderboard uploads - even purely cosmetic ones like paintball mode.
I'm not sure whether I'll come back to this mode to try to finish unlocking all of the maps; as it stands, we still have 2 more game modes left to try next weekend.
