Hurricanes (SNES) Playthrough - NintendoComplete
A playthrough of U.S. Gold's 1994 platforming game for the Super NES, Hurricanes.
Played through with Cal on hard mode. Just about every video I could find of this game showed people playing it on easy, and since easy mode ends when you're only about halfway through the game, I felt compelled to record the whole thing to give a proper look at the game.
This was apparently based on a cartoon, The Hurricanes, but I have never seen it, nor would I have ever even heard about it if it weren't for this game. It seems like a really odd choice for a license (Wildcats or Stone Protectors, anyone?), but the game is fair enough. It looks nice, the music is alright, and the platforming is pretty standard and easy. I do also REALLY enjoy that hilarious tinny scream whenever you jump and bash your head on the ceiling. It doesn't get old!
The "innovation" that this one offers lies with the soccer ball-turned-boomerang as a weapon. Not so impressive sounding, right? About the only thing it does for the game play is to give a reason to be careful when you fire, because if you kick the football/soccer ball into anything sharp (thorns, a boss's spear, etc.) the ball deflates and flies away like an abused balloon, leaving you defenseless for a few seconds.
It's easy and short, and it's mildly entertaining in short bursts. I imagine it'd be better if you enjoyed the show, but has anyone even seen it?
