Hyper Fighting Demo (Virtual Boy) 3D Playthrough - NintendoComplete
31A playthrough of the demo version of Mr. Anonymous's 2014 homebrew fighting game for the Nintendo Virtual Boy, Hyper Fighting.
This video is a 3D SBS video that can be played back full 3D on 3D TVs, VR headsets, or anything else that will play stereoscopic 3D content. This format is better at approximating the image you would see from the original system, as opposed to the image from a "flattened" 2D recording.
This is extremely cool - it's a homemade port/adaptation of Street Fighter II for the red-and-black Nintendo VR system. Using assets and mechanics from several different iterations of games in the SF series, Hyper Fighter (an allusion to SF2 Turbo: Hyper Fighting, I assume), is a surprisingly high quality effort for a game made nearly 20 years after the death of a system that went virtually ignored, even when it was available on store shelves.
This demo version is the only publicly available version of the game as far as I know. It was completed and sold (in original-style retail packaging, no less!) on extremely limited qualities, and a rom has never released of the full thing. The demo is quite a showpiece by itself, though. The timings and mechanics are a little off, but again, as a demo, I'm not surprised. It was probably further improved for the full release. However, all of the special moves are here, and it animates far more smoothly than ANY of the officially licensed games ever did - better than the 16-bit ports as well. And, the music sounds much like the TG16's port - makes sense since the two systems' synthesis engines are quite similar to one another. It sounds great.
It's an awesome novelty piece, and I'd love a chance to play the full game. Since copies go for over the $1000 mark, I doubt it'll happen, but still - one can dream, right?
