One of the maybe more infamous challenges in the game, getting a score of 50 in Temple of Cthulhu is made very difficult by low treasure density, and a strictly enforced need to keep going "inwards". (Other "directional" lands like Ivory Tower and Lost Mountain only loosely enforce this, and it's very possible to backtrack and collect multiple treasures at lower altitudes. Not so here.)
On top of this, past around 25 treasures the enemy density of this land starts getting pretty scary. If you just run in and try to improvise tactics to kill all the enemies, you might eventually get walled or overrun.
You can't even really effectively bring in other orbs to help out with this (well, certainly not in Pure Tactics mode, but not in the main game either), so what we are doing here is pretty similar to the problems we would have in the main game. You get Orb of the Dragon occasionally and that's it.
How to cope? Well, I'll try and explain how to handle all of this. In a very lengthy amount of detail.
