Hypno Island Band Animation (2019)

This was my final project for the first semester of my Animation II class. We had to animate a band performing a song.
I was really into My Singing Monsters fan content at this time, so I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to try reanimating one of those songs. I chose Hypno Island by MantisGirl, since it had released a few months prior to starting on this.
Calimetal (the guitarist) and Fubbarage (the drummer) were both animated using rigs I made of them in Flash, as I knew that most MSM animators I watched used rigged animation. The animation process was INCREDIBLY time consuming though, to the point where I would come to school early to work on it, and I would use all of my free time at home working on it. I ended up animating Klapto (the fella who makes the clapping sounds near the end) frame-by-frame in Flipaclip to save on time. This meant I never got around to animating the other sounds in the video. Even then, you can tell I was cutting it close, since Klapto isn’t colored in and Fubbarage just completely falls apart near the end.
I actually planned on reanimating the entire song for the final project of the next semester, and even started working on it at home. In January, I bought the animation software Moho Pro and complete animation rigs for both Truccus (the organ sound in the song) and Tommshrumm (the lower drum sound that briefly plays). However, once the pandemic happened and we couldn’t do our typical animation projects, the idea kinda fell apart. Someday I might make a video going over the ideas I had, because there’s WAY too much to talk about for just a description.
Hypno Island and the designs for Klapto and Fubbarage were made by MantisGirl.
