Yacht Club Games, best known as the developer of Shovel Knight and all of its side games, has announced a brand-new IP called “Mina the Hollower!” As a longtime mega fan of Shovel Knight, I’ve often referred to it as the best SNES that wasn’t on the SNES, I couldn’t be more psyched to try out the newest offering from Yacht Club. It looks to be heavily inspired by the 8-bit aesthetic of the Gameboy, especially top-down Zelda like the Oracle games, but Yacht Club also says they took a lot of inspiration from Castlevania as well as Bloodborne. Wherever they took inspiration for Mina, my anticipation is completely redlined at the moment. I have full faith that whatever they turn out will strike that beautiful balance between retro inspired and modern. Too bad it looks like we’ll have to wait until sometime in late 2023 to jump into this one.
