IFR ATC Course | Part 6: Holds and Missed Approaches
31Our IFR ATC Course continues, designed to encourage pilots take the next step to expand their flight simulation experience. The focus here is on ATC communication, phraseology and procedures.
Tonight we work on Hold's and Missed Approaches. I will fly a demo flight from 18:00z to 19:00z to give a step by step tutorial on how to execute a hold and then a missed approach with the Airbus A320. Once finished - we start the practical part of the lesson.
We will be departing from EINN and flying to EIDW with a fixed flight plan and fixed weather settings. Be sure to check out the latest NOTAM over on the website.
Depending on the needs of ATC - they may instruct you to hold or go missed approach. The flight we will be doing shouldnt include them - but you never know!
As we get closer to our VATSIM event - its time to learn, refresh or just practice these procedures.
Just as last week - we will have 2 x Groups. Group A and Group B. Again - all the details are on the NOTAM.
The lesson will be broken down into 4 parts.
Flight Planning:
We assess current weather, airspace status, and available ATC support. Choose an optimal route and review pertinent charts and NOTAMs.
Filing Flight Plan:
We file our plan via the TTM website ensuring all details are correctly provided.
The Flight:
We execute the planned route, following ATC instructions and maintaining situational awareness. Communicate effectively with ATC and experience changing to multiple frequencies. We will focus on Holds and Missed Approaches.
Debrief:
We conclude the flight with a debrief, reflecting on communication effectiveness and identifying areas for improvement.
