In a Wicked Age - The Death God Has Two Faces
5We play a one-shot of In a Wicked Age, a sword-and-sorcery game by D. Vincent Baker (of Apocalypse World fame).
Since time immemorial, Shamash-Andul of the Two Faces, god of Life and Death, has watched over the world. Their Life aspect, Andul, watches the Lands Above and their Death aspect, Shamash, oversees the Lands Below. Once the celestial giants helped maintain the balance between life and death, but since their demise, the duty has fallen to mankind. To aid them, Shamash-Andul mated with a mortal and produced a child, Erish. When the child grew to adulthood, they became the most powerful wizard in the world and founded an order to aid the balance.
For centuries, the face of Andul has gazed benificently upon humanity, Life has reigned over Death and mankind's magics have grown powerful.
But now Erish lies dead and Shamash-Andul has turned their faces from the world. None know what will happen next. But that does not prevent them from taking the opportunity to steer the world in the direction they desire.
The Oracle we drew prompts from for this game was The Unquiet Dead. The results were:
- The soul of a dead wizard, seeking an advantageous rebirth.
- A murderer-for-hire, luckless and in poverty, from whom the gods have turned their faces.
- The convocation of a ruins' ghouls, gaunts, and wisps.
- The burglary of a magical order's innermost library.
