A quick tutorial on how to perform the infinite lives glitch on Super Mario Bros. 2 (Japan), for the Famicom Disk System. Otherwise known as 'The Lost Levels' outside of Japan for future port releases. Like many Mario games, this trick (turtle tipping) can be done to the same effect. Super Mario Bros. 2 (Japan) is a notoriously difficult game to the original, and this trick can be done at the very first level of the game. It's probably the easiest method for those who find getting the timing down for this glitch too.

Here's how to do the Infinite Lives Glitch for Super Mario Bros. 2 (Japan): start the game off as normal, and reach the area with the red Koopa Troopa. Get the mushroom, and then smash the block while the Koopa Troopa is walking on it to temporarily stun it. Make sure it is isolated on a single block. Quickly jump up and smash the two blocks above and wait for the Koopa Troopa to recover.

Here comes the fun part! Simply jump against the above blocks and land on the Koopa Troopa. The key is to quickly double jump when landing on it, to maintain your momentum. The score will multiply for each jump until it surpasses 8000 points, which awards an extra live for each successive jump afterwards. It is entirely possible after this to take your hands off the controller, as the jumping becomes automated. Feel free to collect as many lives as you want before the timer runs out.

This glitch can be done as many times as you want to maximize your chances of beating the game. You won't be able to see exactly how many lives you have however. The lives counter doesn't register after a certain number, replacing them with random sprites. The game will still tally the amount of lives gained regardless. It is even possible to return to World 1-1 after completing it, via the reverse warp zone in World 3-1. Useful if you need an easy way to acquire more lives.
