A two-day inquest into the death of a Nottingham soldier has concluded today.

Guardsman Michael Roland of 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards, was shot through the heart when a single bullet fired by an insurgent just missed his Osprey body armour. The inquest heard that his protective kit could not have prevented his death.

The coroner gave a narrative conclusion that Guardsman Roland was killed on active duty in the service of his country.
