Insanity's Requiem 1.7a with Hell On Earth Starter Pack #1
Insanity's Requiem is one of the mods for Doom that you can't miss if you want to get something refreshing, quite different to the Brutal Doom or Project Brutality. This modification is much more tactical and forces on player a more careful approach when playing. Most of the weapons aren't so powerful and universal but there are few handy and overpowered which act as lifesavers. Majority of weapons have the alternate fire mode, for example the Assault Rifles switch between full auto and single mode. The Flak Cannon that is under a Plasma Rifle slot, launches a ball full of shrapnels - really devastating. Your basic pump action shotgun switches between normal and incendiary shells (extremely OP). You may only feel that the Anti-Materiel Rifle is quite underpowered, haven't got a good opinion about this weapon. Remember that reloading here is quite different - most of the weapons count magazines not the ammo one by one. If you reload half empty magazine, you also lose all the ammunition inside so keep it in mind. The monsters have their own unique variants - let's take a look for example at Revenant. It has the very basic unarmed Revenant that only attacks with punches while the Dark Revenant uses its missile launchers. Also upon death, it releases a weak ghost that attacks you, similar to the Coolie from Shadow Warrior.
Starter Pack by SgtMarkIV known from Brutal Doom is a 32 level mappack that requires either Freedoom or Doom II Hell On Earth. This mappack addon retells the story of both Doom I and Doom II in it's own original way - some of the locations are redrawn to feel much more realistic than in the original releases of games, others are completely new, a lot of work has been put to make this mappack with all 32 maps. Doomguy will have to make through the demon infested UAC base on Mars where "something went wrong" and he is the only one really capable of dealing against the invasion from the Hell itself.
