Is this actually hell?
169his short is from my video playing 1000 Years of Stellaris. it follows one of the astral rifts I explored near the beginning of my game. We opened a third rift and sent our sphere inside. A hellish landscape with insanely high temperatures took shape before us. In the distance, a black obelisk loomed. Orb-like creatures flew around us and one approached, we submersed the sphere into the lava and emerged near the obelisk scanning the runes littered upon it. We studied the runes and realized they are names and there are trillions of them. Touching any of the names caused a discharge of energy in a distant chamber and a cry of pain. The orbs noticed us and began floating towards us so we planted explosives on the obelisk. The obsidian stone cracked in half and with it, the gates lining the chambers swung open emptying hordes of creatures into the tunnels. We activated the anchor and promptly left the rift. Years later we were contacted by a strange creature telling us the balance must be restored. They required replacement prisoners or they would torment all our people till the suffering was complete and so we begrudgingly supplied our criminals.
