Isolated Warrior (or "Max Warrior: Wakusei Kaigenrei") is a relatively little-known (but good) diagonal-scrolling shooter that features great graphics with isometric projection, cool music, lots of well-designed enemies to blast, and a badass hero. The game was developed by Kindle Imagine Develop (KID) and published by Vap (with NTVIC serving as a co-publisher). You assume the role of the last captain of his strange world (Pan), Max Maverick of the Special Force, who is fighting as a one-man army to rid his planet of the hideous beasts and aliens that are destroying it. It has a few story scenes between levels; they're nothing too special, but are a nice touch.

Your character is almost always moving (except against certain bosses or mid-bosses) and is either on foot or in a vehicle of some kind. He has three primary weapons: Spread Shots, Linear Shot, and Bombs. Each of his weapons can be upgraded several levels and all serve their purpose, though you should use bombs a bit sparingly as they are limited. In addition to these, Max can grab items that increase his speed, give him one-ups, earn you extra points, grant you a shield for limited protection, things of that nature. Max can even jump, which will be needed in order to avoid certain obstacles or attack/dodge during regular intervals. He has health, so he doesn't die in one hit.

This isn't one of those games that has "sequel" written all over it, but it's a fun and relatively challenging diversion that more people should've played. You can also only get the true ending if you beat the normal levels without losing a life (which will allow you to play the final level). Speaking of losing a life, this is one of those games where the later you lose a life, the harder it is to get yourself resituated because you lose everything you gained (to an unfair extent; depending on the circumstance, you may not have enough power or speed to defeat certain foes or make important jumps). This is a video of the first few levels. Enjoy.
