GIGADEEP (or Giga Deep) is the latest doujin game by Peposoft, creators of such titles as Houkaimura (A Ghosts 'n Goblins parody clone) and Neko Shounen Bouken Ki, and it was released a few days ago. It is an intriguing "Mega Man X" parody of sorts, but it's obvious a lot of effort was put into this game, especially when compared to prior Peposoft efforts. This game would be awesome if it wasn't positively PLAGUED with bugs right now. Even though the game is generally complete and "playable", bug fixes and updates are already being rolled out, and part of what I show you in this video, while cool looking and good for demonstration, is just one of many serious BUGS. First, I'll talk a little about the bugs.

The game allows you to play with various characters (the main of which is a monster named "DEEP") with different characteristics and story elements, some of which are unlockable. I play with Pappy, who is a bit more like "Zero" (whereas DEEP is like Mega Man with strange abilities such as shooting goo that drains his health and self-healing powers). In the first stage, you can sometimes start with ALL weapons. Clearing the stage like this takes you to the final Wily-esque levels instead of fighting the masters as you should. I edited it to go to the next portion naturally in spite of having all weapons on a stage I shouldn't have them.

Other bugs include certain enemies, projectiles, and events botching the gameplay or following you into rooms, causing you to take damage. If low on health, this is extremely annoying. Other bugs include being hit right from the gate at certain respawning points (after death). One thing that isn't a bug but should probably be tweaked is the music is too loud, drowning out some of the spoken audio; it should be a little lower. Those are the most pressing matters as of now. The rest of my video plays normally, with no powers in which to speak of, not that you need them at all for the first stage.

Since the game is so much like Mega Man (X), I won't say much regarding the gameplay. You can dash, charge weapon power, get screws that act as currency, even buy power-ups from a Roll wannabe like "Beer" that act as sub-tanks. The game is noted by the devs as being REALLY HARD, and they aren't kidding. Even with some of the bugs being fixed, this game would still be quite a challenge, especially on the highest difficulties where enemies really hurt you when you get hit. They also state the game uses a lot of cpu resources-- they're not kidding about that either. The game auto-saves after pretty much everything.

Anyhoo, despite its problems, its a really neat game which just needs a few tweaks here and there. It's got nice retro-style visuals and a soundtrack that would make the Blue Bomber proud. It's free and you can get it below:

There's an updater that updates a few bugs in the game, but didn't do much that I could notice. You can learn more about Peposoft at:

This is a video showing the (bugged) first level and a second level with Pappy, and some of a third level with Deep. The video uses a few transitions due to aforementioned bugs. Enjoy.
