Just as in Biome 1, once you earn your way to the boss fight, the game gives you a shortcut to get there again after you die.
In Biome 1, you just have to get past the Brute fight so you can get the sword, which gains you the Anathema Key to unlock the way to the first boss. That gate remains unlocked in future runs, so it's just a matter of finding it again after you load up.
In Biome 2, it's a portal near the entrance to the foot of the mountain. I wanted to find the fabricator first and purchase my usuals.
Despite being equipped with two healing packs and an astronaut, and really high max integrity, I wasn't able to beat the boss's third phase. Maybe I just need to shoot him in the head as much as possible to interrupt his worst attacks.
I very much liked the Carbine with High Caliber, though. It does nice damage.
My hands. They are sweaty.
On a prior failed run, instead of a Severed at the foot of the mountain, 3 Sun zombies appeared. I had never seen that in the Crimson Wastes before. It's like the game changes things up on you when you make 'progress'. An aspect I welcome. I just hate the fights that always give me trouble, like the Severed.
This really is a beautiful game. I'm enjoying the groove of it, although yesterday I was getting pretty frustrated because I didn't feel like I was making progress. Now that I get it more, the game feels more friendly. I just need to remember that my first trip through a biome will be long to make it to the boss. Then later it will be quicker to get back to the boss.
