Jerp plays Mortal Shell pt.4 - End (2020-09-08)
2Finally back at the obsidian menace - now much more confident thanks to the fully-upgraded Hallowed Sword. The journey ended up going surprisingly smoothly, especially thanks to finding Sester Genessa in a couple of key places. Still impressed by how cool the area looks, even if it's a bit empty until later on.
After crushing the boss there, I found myself wandering a bit to figure out where the last item was - having nearly forgot about the last major area that I had backed away from early on.
Finally found fast travel, too! I bet I've been inadvertently avoiding the consumable version of that same item. Earlier games and especially From's Souls games have made be overly reserved. Big spends in From's games can oftentimes not be worth it, and rare items are sometimes too rare and precious to risk using until you're absolutely desperate.
Final boss and ending were alright. I think I didn't quite put the story together and didn't feel so much was leading up to it. I need to do some additional reading to fill in the gaps and see if I actually understood what I saw in-game.
Overall I really enjoyed it, and I really want to see future games by Cold Symmetry in the Souls genre - especially stuff with more development time and a bigger budget.
The in-game nods to NG+ were a nice touch. I wasn't initially sure I'd do another playthrough but now I'm much more leaning towards doing one, and running a different shell+weapon combo to keep things fresh.
