Justice League Task Force (Genesis) Playthrough - NintendoComplete
A playthrough of Acclaim's 1995 license-based versus fighter for the Sega Genesis, Justice League Task Force.
Played through with The Flash on the default difficulty level.
Justice League Task Force on the Genesis is a completely separate game from the SNES title of the same name, despite both versions being co-developed with Sunsoft and published by Acclaim. I suspect the primary reason for the difference lies in the "other" developer: Blizzard shared the duties on the SNES, while Condor (who not long after became Blizzard North - the Diablo guys) developed the Genesis version. No doubt, they were both incredibly talented teams, but Blizzard North fell down a bit on their end of the deal.
I'm a fan of the SNES game, no doubt. It was a bit simple for 1995, but it played well and it looked and it sounded great. If you want to see it as a basis for comparison, you can find my playthrough of it at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9C0cYS_UG4
I do enjoy playing the Genesis version, but it feels a bit half-baked in comparison. There are only six characters available for the story mode (though granted, the three bosses are available in the versus modes), and even though it looks awesome in still shots, the animation is fairly rough compared to its contemporaries. There isn't much variety in the way the characters play - almost all of them have the same button inputs to do functionally equivalent moves, and it's a bit too easy once you figure out how to get around the fairly cheap AI.
The one place this game really shines, and I mean really, is the soundtrack. The level music generally stays to the background, but the intro and ending music are pretty magical for the Genesis. Moreover, it features what I would consider the most insanely awesome menu/character select music ever this side of One Must Fall 2097. I love it so much that I put it on a ten-minute loop at the end of the video. It's criminal how it only gets used for about 10 seconds in game. I mean, it's loaded with orchestra hits!! Right?! ORCHESTRA HITS!! The awesome-sauce begins at 19:00.
