Kerbal Space Program 0.9 Career 5
I'm back with some more Kerbal Space Program 0.9 Career mode. We are still trying to earn some funds to upgrade some more buildings so that it will be easier to get to the Mun and other places.
So we start off looking at contracts in the administration building, but ones we currently have and ones we can pick up. We wee that the one visual survey contract pays well, and should be achievable with the aircraft that we had already built. We take a contract to test a 'Skipper' engine in orbit, but we won't be doing that this time. We also take a contract to rescue an astronaut from orbit.
We go the the R&D department, and unlock the landing gear with the science we unlocked last time. This is so we can use the aircraft we previously built (when we were testing the gear bay for a contract). We modify the aircraft a bit so that it will fly better at higher altitudes by adding to more air intakes, and we remove the unnecessary separatron that was also tested by the aircraft.
We take off after a small issue, and head north, climbing as high as possible to get our speed as high as possible. It takes a bit of time, but we make it to the location that we need to do the crew report in, although we pas by it initially. We have to descend a bit and turn around, but we get the report done on our second pass.
We then turn around and head north again, heading to the locations for our second visual survey contract. It takes a while to fly almsot to the pole, and we start running low on fuel, but we get to the first of the 3 locations with 10% of our fuel left. We get that report done, and head to the second location, which isn't too far away. We to a report at the second location, and then head to the third location, were we have to land an EVA. We make it there, but only have 5% of our fuel left. We attempt to land, but we leave the area before we can do so. So we turn around, and when we enter the area again, we slow and pop the parachutes and float to the ground. We are able to do the EVA report and then recover to KSC.
We then decide to get one more quick contract done that turns out to be not so quick. We just wanted to transmit or recover some science from space, so we put together a small probe on rocket and attempt to send it up.
What I don't show is that even though it appears I attached an antenna, somehow when I go to launch the rocket, it isn't attached, and I don't notice this until the probe is in orbit. So I have to revert, and I then decide that it is better to land the probe and recover some of the cost than it is to transmit and leave the probe in orbit, where it will run out of power and become useless.
So I add some parachutes to the back of the probe, as to not cover the front of the Science Jr, but that cause the rocket to tip over during liftoff! Adjusting the parachutes to be symmetrical, the next attempt goes well, and we get into orbit, gather some science and return it to the surface for recovery.
With the three contracts complete, we now have nearly 400,000 funds and just under 200 science. Next time we will unlock some buildings and science tech, and likely rescue a Kerbal from orbit and test the Skipper engine.
