Kerbal Space Program 0.9 Career 1
Hey guys, Kerbal Space Program 0.9 Beta is out, and I'm starting a new Career mode play through!
I start out looking at the new upgradable space center, before taking some contracts and starting on a first mission. You start off being limited to 2 contracts at once, and only being able to build a launch small ships. You have to spend funds to upgrade the building to build bigger ships, take more contracts, and store more science.
We start of just taking the 'launch a ship' and 'reach 5000 meters' contracts, which we achieve with a simple solid rocket powered ship. We use the science earned to unlock the first tech level and we pick up two more contracts, to test a solid booster while landed, and to test a radial decoupler about 20 km up.
This ship for the second mission is just two solid boosters radially attached to a center liquid engine, and it easily allow us to achieve both contracts. In fact, we reach space, and we even use some fuel to return faster. Unfortunately, we come down over the mountains, and although we land OK, the capsule begins to tumble down the side of the mountain and explodes! Hopefully Jeb will recover.
We take another two contracts, to test an LV-909 liquid engine and to tests the Mk16 parachute at altitude. We build a smaller ship this time, with two solid rockets and a central LV-909 engine. With Bob at the controls, and a bit of fancy flying to get to the required speed for the parachute test, we are able to achieve both contracts and land in the ocean.
We user our science of the Stability tech which unlocks a nose cone, winglets and radial decouplers. For a fourth missions, we take another two contracts, to test the radial parachutes and to test the BACC solid boosters. Our initial build for this mission, which had 2 of the medium BACC solid boosters proved to be too much weight for our basic launch pad, so we had to redesign the ship to have only one, with a pair of the basic solid boosters to get up to the 2.5 km test altitude. This worked well, and with the mass of the booster helping us keep up keep as we descended, we were able to test the parachutes on our sub-orbital return from space at the needed speed.
That is all for this episode! We flew 4 missions, have 37 science and 35k funds, and a positive reputation. Next time we will try to earn more funds and upgrade some buildings!
