Kirby and the Forgotten Land - Ch. 23 - An Unexpected Beast King
We're back in Kirby land! Upon completion of this level, we should be at the exact halfway point of the game. However, that should include the Treasure Roads available in Winter Horn, finishing the Colosseum in Waddle Dee Town and getting all available power upgrades available.
That should take us to 50%, if not really really close. Anywho, we definitely enjoyed this boss fight. For the first time ever, we were able to clear all the missions for a boss fight on the first try! It definitely was not an 'unexpected' Beast King. In fact, it was probably the most expected, right?
CHAPTER 23 - AN UNEXPECTED BEAST KING
Follow the walkthrough to learn how to complete each of these Missions to find every Waddle Dee in An Unexpected Beast King:
-Clear the An Unexpected Beast King stage
-Swallow King Dedede's Hammer
-Clear Without Guarding
-Clear Within 1:30
-Clear Without Taking Damage
-Swallow King Dedede's Hammer
To swallow King Dedede's Hammer, you'll need to get to the boss fight's mid-point. When this happens King Dedede will fall over, and drop his hammer. Press the - (Minus) Button to eject your current ability, then vacuum it up! You'll have to be very quick, as the hammer will disappear in the next cutscene 4-5 seconds after King Dedede falls over.
Doing this will give Kirby the Hammer ability, but if you preferred the ability you had before you ingested the hammer, wait until the cutscene finishes, and your previous ability will still be there in the arena!
-Clear Without Guarding
To get this Mission, all you have to do is beat King Dedede without using the Guard move. This is where you press L, R, ZL or ZR to have Kirby guard, which reduces incoming damage. This is easier to accomplish than it sounds because a lot of King Dedede's moves can be avoided simply by moving out of the way at the right time.
-Clear Within 1:30
This Mission tasks you with defeating King Dedede within 1 minute and 30 seconds. As with the other boss fights, the timer only starts at the end of the boss' introduction cutscene, so you can take as long as you like to get to him.
The ability we recommend here is Dragon Fire, for a few reasons:
-You can get the Fire ability among the ability dispensers at the bottom of the stairs leading up to the arena.
-You can get the Dragon Fire evolution before this level, in Windy, Freezing Seas.
-Dragon Fire has a very high damage output and long range, enabling you to dish out the hurt from a safer distance so you have more time to react to King Dedede's attacks.
-King Dedede can be lit on fire with this ability, dealing damage over time for when you're not directly attacking him.
-The mid-air boost glide also deals a fair bit of damage.
If you're also doing the Swallow King Dedede's Hammer Mission, remember that you can reacquire the Dragon Fire ability after the mid-boss cutscene, since it's much more useful than the Hammer ability!
-Clear Without Taking Any Damage
Exactly what it says in the description: win the King Dedede fight without taking a single hit! The best way to do this is to keep moving and keep your distance, as this will allow you to dodge the majority of King Dedede's attacks. The scariest move is towards the end when he slams the stone column on the ground. To avoid that, you'll have to keep running as he slams the column, where you'll only just make it.
Homing Bomb Blueprint
The Homing Bomb Blueprint will be awarded to you after you defeat King Dedede. Remember to pick it up before freeing the Waddle Dees!
