Aerobraking is a technique used at Earth, Mars or any planet with an atmosphere, to decelerate without using fuel. It is not without mass cost, since a heat shield is required, but very often the mass cost of the heat shield is much less than the mass cost of the fuel would be.
Aaaand... then there is Lithobraking. ;) Lithobraking is more commonly known as a crash or impact and is generally accidental and usually terminates the mission explosively. BUT, what if you could control your impact with the surface of a moon or other body in such a way that you could save fuel and also land the important parts of your craft intact?
