The 'Intrepid' Disaster, Episode 156 of Journey Into Space
See, this is why we test. So that we discover problems in Kerbin orbit or Mun orbit instead of at Duna or Jool. Unfortunately, we just discovered two mission-critical issues with the Intrepid: there's no SAS, and the hatch is blocked. Oops.
Also unfortunately, to get Valentina Clauberry and Joewin down to the ground to try again, the Intrepid will have to do something that it was never designed to do: enter Kerbin's atmosphere, survive re-entry, and land on the surface. I mean, I could just send a rocket up to take them home, go to all the trouble of launching a rocket, rendezvous and docking, but why should I do that when I can risk their lives on a foolhardy maneuver instead? ;)
After our brave heroes are feeding the fishes... I mean, safely home... we are going to take a break from the interplanetary mission and have a vacation. A vacation to Minmus. Space tourism time! A successful space tourism program needs five things: a place to go, things to do while there, a reusable or partly reusable space transportation system for getting there, a place for the tourists to stay, and tourists rich enough to take a vacation in outer space. For the latter, I don't know if there are any Kerbal billionaires, but if there are they are surely going to want to vacation on Minmus!
