"Senile Space Pilot" Part 1, Episode 153 of Journey Into Space
Have I become senile or just strange? (Well, I was ALWAYS strange.) Has age melted my brain cells or monkish solitude robbed my of my sparkling wit? Or both? You decide.
Once more into the breach dear friends, as we send yet more Kerbals to possibly die horrible yet reasonably quick deaths in space. I have made preparations for a grand adventure, but first after a year of playing almost no KSP, I have to prove to myself that I still know how. So we are going to take a detour to the Mun, a moon landing to demonstrate to my own satisfaction whether I have what it takes to embark on our epic journey.
In this episode, we launch our moon rocket into orbit first try (cha-ching!) and have an uneventful transit to Munar orbit. We transfer our commander, Valentina Kerman, and a scientist to the lunar lander, leaving Command Module Pilot whats-his-name in charge of the mother ship. All proceeds normally until only a few thousand feet above the ground I notice I am running out of gas! I forgot to connect one measly fuel line between the side tanks to the main tank, and so the main engine is running dry while the side tanks sit full of fuel and useless! Can I transfer fuel in time to land, or will Valentina and brave scientist whats-her-name spatter into the dry lunar soil like ripe tomatoes?? Find out next time!
