My Kerbal Space Program launch tower for the Saturn V has its first partial retracting arm, the crew access arm. It's still a WIP, only partially completed, but the retraction mechanism has been finished.

The arm is mounted on a hinge pin (formed from a rescaled stock fuel tank), and the top of the pin has an attach node which connects it to another node on the tower, right above the hinge housing, which is two rescaled Mk1 Structural fuselages (they are truly hollow inside, i.e. no colliders).

The tower attach node has a decouple function, and when decoupled the arm becomes a separate vessel which settles into the hinge housing. On the arm is mounted a custom solid-rocket sepraton, which is fired at the same time as the node decouple. This causes the arm to retract in a simple way.
