I'm working on a simplified launch tower for my Saturn V, one that will work without the excessive lag in the 64-bit versions of KSP (1.1.x, 1.2.x, 1.3.x). By greatly reducing the part models used in the tower and swing arms, I got it to work pretty well. Much of the detail was lost, but it all those part models that was causing the lag. I also made the hing mounts a separate part to furthur reduce the amount of welded models in the tower.

I'll next try adding some more floors into the tower, to see if it affects the performance. I'll also try a crew elevator as well; by also making it a separate part that attaches to the tower, I hope it will work without affecting the tower.
