Last Epoch played and recorded on Steam Deck [Rogue] Part 02 Can't wait for the endgame
There is a lot of videos on YT with various games tested on Steam Deck. Most of them present the footage of the screen. In my case, I want to show the actual look of the game itself and how it performs when you have Steam game recording turned on.
NOTE: This is a super-cut video of several sessions of the game since there is no chance I would have the time and endurance to spend 11 hours in one sitting. That is why you see obvious cuts between individual sessions.
For many gamers that I know, Diablo 2 is one of the most nostalgic games ever. Simple and satisfying gameplay where you whack through hundreds of demons, minions, specters, you name it. With a story just to provide a dark setting to give the players a reason to hack and slash through even more enemies and pick up all the loot on their way.
Hack n slash games are, next to simulators, my best way to relax with a controller or mouse and keyboard. That is why I tried one of the titles that has been on my radar for a pretty long time - Last Epoch.
Developed by Eleventh Hour Games and released in 2019, Last Epoch seems like a bridge game between PoE fans and regular hack'n'slash - there is something for min/maxers (for me, I really don't care about min/maxing my games, if something works good enough, I don't go Sherlock Holmes over how to improve my build to make it do 1-2 more dps and don't read essays about the best gear in the game) and something for people who prefer standard character development. I think the game found a nice balance. Instead of overwhelming the player with a huge passive skill tree, they give you several separate trees that you can conveniently browse through.
One of the other distinguishing features of Last Epoch is the concept of time travel. The player has the opportunity jump between different eras, with the endgame content (from what I read) focused on the time period called "End of Time" and I can't wait to see that.
I chose to play as the rogue class because it's the closest to my concept I had after replaying Diablo 2 last year - to play through major hack n slash games as a class as similar to the Amazon as possible and since classes in Last Epoch are gender-locked, it was an easy pick :)
NOTE: The recording presents the look of the actual internal resolution of the Steam Deck but to avoid merciless YT compression, I reencoded the video to 1440p.
