“Last Journey” HACC Simulation Rendered using the Intel® oneAPI Rendering Toolkit | SIGGRAPH 2021
This demo video shows a single-rank subset of the Last Journey Hardware/Hybrid Accelerated Cosmology Code (HACC) simulation consisting of roughly 12 million particles, as it evolves over the full-time series of the simulation (225 GB in total). We render it using the full Intel® Rendering Toolkit stack for scientific visualization.
The Last Journey is a large-volume, gravity-only, cosmological N-body simulation evolving more than 1.24 trillion particles in a periodic box with a side-length of 3400Mpc/h. It was implemented using the HACC (Hardware/Hybrid Accelerated Cosmology Code) simulation and analysis framework on the BG/Q system, Mira. The cosmological parameters are chosen to be consistent with the results from the Planck satellite. The simulation follows the evolution of structure in the universe by solving for the matter density and velocity.
